I Know What Eric You Wore Did This Last Summer
Around May 2011, I was walking into a Starbucks with my wife and she said “You know, I think this is the third day in a row you’ve worn a Metallica shirt. You probably have so many Metallica shirts I bet you could wear nothing but Metallica shirts all summer!” So, I said “I’ll take that challenge!” Mind you, I didn’t have enough to wear a different Metallica shirt each day of the summer, but I did realize I have quite a few Metallica T-Shirts. So, starting on June 21 (the first day of Summer), I began chronicling each shirt that I owned, in no particular order. Here is my collection from my “Metallica T-Shirt Summer”
- This is probably my oldest Metallica t-shirt. I believe I got this in the summer of '96 just after Load came out.
- Each year the Metallica Fan Club sends you a new t-Shirt. This was 2008, celebrating 15 years of the Official Metallica Fan Club. (nothing on the back)
- This was a "fan pick the color" shirt (this was the color I chose, coincidentally). I'm thinking I got this t-shirt around 2001-02.
- Metclub 2011 t-shirt - Front and Back.
- I wish I could say I got this 20 years ago and have held onto it since... but the truth is I got it at Springfield Mall around 2006.
- Obviously purchased at Summer Sanitarium 2003. I look back at this show with mixed feelings. This was the ONLY show that I have ever won Meet and Greet passes for. I was so excited. Unfortunately I had to work that day but I managed to get off at noon to head up to the show. I was coming from Northern Virginia into DC, so I figured 3 hours would give me PLENTY of time (you had to be there no later than 3:00 for the meet and greet). With non-stop construction on 495 it took me FOUR HOURS to get to the venue, AND I missed The Deftones set which is the other band I was looking forward to seeing the most at the show.
- Purchased on April, 24th, 2004 in Roanoke, VA. I remember TWO things about this show. 1) It was HOT!! The AC in the building was messed up and Metallica actually cut their encore short because of the heat. 2) I had to go to the ER and get 15 stitches in my chin after this show. I literally got caught in a mosh, and was slammed in the chin by the top of some bald dude's head.
- Death Magnetic t-shirt that was only available if you purchased the Death Magnetic Coffin Box set. My coffin is off center...
- Metclub 2007 t-shirt - Front and Back. Incidentally, I have about three more tatoo's in mind, and this is one of them. Just the "bat" portion, but pretty much exactly where it is on my back in this picture.
- Metclub 2002 t-shirt.
- This shirt came with the Fan Can 5 in 2003 that only certain club members were able to receive. The Fan Can also included a DVD with 4 rare live performances and St. Anger live in studio performance, and a CD of their St. Anger tour rehearsal shows at The Fillmore in San Francisco.
- This t-shirt reads, "This I Swear". This is from Fan Can VI which came out around the end of 2010.
- Metclub 2006 t-shirt – Front and Back.
- Metclub 2010 t-shirt - glows in the dark. I was in Pittsburgh when I took this, hence the hotel backdrop.
- Metclub 2005 t-shirt.
- Metclub 1996 t-shirt. This was my first Metclub t-shirt.
- MetClub 2009 t-Shirt. Cool shirt, I should wear it more often.
- Metclub 2004 t-shirt.
- Hockey Jersey that my wife got me for Christmas around 2001. [Ed. Technically this isn't a t-shirt!!! HA HA!]
- I got this one at the Big 4. Technically it was still summer – September 14, 2011. AWESOME show!! Never been to New York, Never taken a train, hadn’t seen Anthrax since 2005 and hadn’t seen Slayer since 1994! So, this was quite the show. I also got an Anthrax shirt at this show but we can save that for my “METAL T-Shirt summer” next year.
