Year ya "discovered" Metallica?
I first "discovered" them in 1985 in the back of a discarded Playboy magazine, it's that two-page section in the back where all the pics are in black and white and it was them in sweaty post-gig glory holding up the movie billboard letters "F U C K" except I think the "F" was backwards. I remember the text pointed out how the groupies were called "Ednas" and that they predicted that this band would go from up and coming to miles beyond the competition. I never heard them, but I liked how they had on no spandex or make-up and they were happy looking drunks. Unlike most of the popular bands at the time. Alas, they didn't surpass Van Halen as my favorite band for a long time.
Unfortunately, I didn't really listen to MetallicA until 1988. Blame it on the guys who always wore their back-patches that couldn't get girlfriends or good grades and got high before school every day. I just didn't want to have anything to do with anything they had anything to do with. (Those guys STILL haven't amounted to shit). I finally got into Metallica during one summer job while painting boiler rooms. I brought Jimi Hendrix tapes to work and this other kid brought Metallica tapes to work. Pretty soon it was obvious that I only wanted to hear his tapes, and he only wanted to hear mine. I never looked back.
Guestimate how many Met shows you’ve seen.
Maybe 30. No number is worth mentioning after Michellica's Hank Aaron-like total, but I did answer this question.
List the setlist (no more than 18 songs) that YOU would like to see Metallica play:
Don't laugh; I would love to see this! I mean seriously. If they're playing, that's good for me.
- Ecstasy Of Gold (does this count as a song?)
- Blackened
- Four Horsemen
- Master of Puppets
- Fade To Black
- Harvester of Sorrow (which fades right into...)
- Shortest Straw
- Seek and Destroy
- Whiplash
- Helpless
- Fight Fire With Fire
- Bleeding Me
- Creeping Death (Joanna would kill me if I didn't request it)
- Orion (which fades right into...)
- Damage Inc.
- No Remorse
- Am I Evil/Last Caress/Battery (just like at the Moscow gig)
- Dyer's Eve (Lars had better play it with TWO kicks drums)
List YOUR favorite venue that YOU would like to see Metallica play in:
The Fillmore in San Francisco. Great sound, great venue.
What is YOUR favorite stage setup?
As I've gotten older, I've become more and more disenchanted with arenas and stadiums. I like the club size stuff. The sound is better, you can see the bands and it cuts down on a lot of the stadium crowd violence. I do wish that during a show they would project a big photo of Cliff onto a backdrop during Orion or Whiplash. That would own.
