Roger's Random Rants

Roger dealing blackjack at the Fuel Halloween party (2004)

Here's another round of what happens to be on mind at this particular time to rant about...

  • Sometimes I wonder if I'll ever make a Fuel Jam, something else always seems to be going on. This time it was being out of town for work.

  • Speaking of being out of town for work, just about the entire first half of October I spent traveling. For those of you who would think that 3 days in Naples FL, 4 days in Santa Barbara, and 4 days in San Francisco sounds good (and staying at the Ritz Carlton, Four Seasons and Marriott), it's only good if you're not working! Having work schedules from about 8 in the morning until about 10 or 11 at night day after day just plain SUCKS! Especially when you work 20 consecutive days. I think my kids remember who I am.

  • However, I must say that the Ritz Carlton was an awesome place...including the flat screen TV (in HD of course) in the room. Too bad I never had a chance to enjoy it!

  • Is it just me or is the metal music world been pretty slow lately?

  • I mean, when Rockstar Supernova (TV show) is the biggest rock story, something's just not right. And picking Lucas was just about the worst choice they (Supernova) could have made - 3 metal/rock guys (Jason Newsted, Tommy Lee and Gilby Clarke) being led by a mumbling goth guy...it's just not right.

  • Kind of a cool band that you may not know about - Seven Witches. Jack Frost (from Savatage) has been a mainstay in this band - which has had unbelievable turnover (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seven_Witches). It's kind of old school metal, I just picked up a couple of CDs of theirs and they are pretty good. You can check out some samples at www.sevenwitches.net. I'm not saying that they are a MUST HAVE band, but if you're looking for something new check them out.

  • In fact, I got two Seven Witches CDs at a VERY COOL record store, Rasputin Music, in San Francisco. You have to check this place out if you go to San Fran - one of the biggest selections of Heavy Metal CDs I've ever seen in a record store. There are listening stations where you can scan the barcode and listen to parts of songs. And the prices were pretty good too.

  • The Virgin record store right around the corner is also pretty good, but it's no Rasputin!

  • Falling into the "all good things must come to an end" category, www.allofmp3.com - a Russian site where I've downloaded many CDs from for around $2-3 each - is now fighting the credit card companies as they are no longer processing anything from their site...making the site useless. Gee, I wonder whose going to win that fight?? RIP allofmp3.

  • If you had said before the season that the Redskins would be 2-5 (after 7 games), I don't think many people would have thought you had your head on straight. What really baffles me about them is how bad their defense has been - what happened there?

  • We're expanding and re-doing our master bedroom bathroom...who ever thought that picking out a color or two would become a full time job?

  • Why am I not too surprised that Dawn became a Roller Girl? You gotta love that!

  • I'm originally from Michigan and still follow the teams up there as well as the hometown Washington teams. That means I'm usually suffering but the Tigers made it to the World Series and the University of Michigan is ranked #2 in college football - thank God I have something to cheer about given the Redskin's season.

  • It's very cool that Iron Maiden is back with a vengeance, their new CD is their best in many years. Can't wait for the tour, just hope I'm not out of town when they come! (See, just like the circle of life, my rants end up where we started, so I guess I'll end on that note!).
