Book Review: Metallica & Philosophy

Metallica & Philosophy

I know that the title might seem a little intimidating, but you have to give the book a chance. I know that when I agreed to look the book over, I was wondering what I was getting myself into. What do I know about philosophy? Nothing. The book itself is a collection of chapters examining a number of philosophical questions regarding Metallica. The book's editor, Bill Irwin, asked long time Fueler Joanna, who also contributed a paper for the book, if she knew anyone that could check the papers for factual errors. She recommended me for the job.

Each week I would receive two new papers to look over, add notes correcting any errors and send the paper back. But some of the ideas that were presented in the papers had me reading a few of them twice...sometimes three times. Not because the concepts were difficult, not at all, but because I couldn't stop thinking about them. I'm not going to give anything away by discussing any of the book's ideas because I want everyone to read it and form their own opinions. Some of you may agree with the writers ideas and others may disagree. One thing is certain, after you read it you will come away thinking the same thing that I did, which was, "I would have never thought of that."

So, my advice to you would be to go out and get this book. What are you waiting for, go now!
