A Letter From Tony

Tony Smith

Upon hearing the news about Robert, Tony Smith (former Metallica Tour Manager and former MetClub President/Editor) wrote a letter about Robert, some of which was read at Robert's funeral on April 19, 2005 in Germany:

To all of the family and friends of Robert,

In my many years of touring with bands I have met many thousands of people from all over the world. The vast majority of those people pass from my memory when I have to concentrate on the next lot of people in the next city. There are a few exceptions to that. Some people that I met were so friendly, so enthusiastic, so nice that I absolutely wanted to remember their names and faces.

Robert Reisinger was one of those people.

From the very first time that I met him I knew that he was one of the good people in the world. It was always my pleasure to meet up with him and see that happy, friendly person. Robert was always willing and proud to help out with Metallica tours and I never doubted that he would take care of anything he was asked to do.

Simply put, Robert was a solid, dependable friend.

We meet so few of those in life that I am deeply saddened about losing him so soon. Although we only talked via email recently I always felt that kindness and goodness in Robert, even through the typed letters. I shall always remember the Robert that was so excited, thrilled and happy to be a part of Metallica tours. The shy smile that hid a heart of gold.

Now I would like to say out loud to all of those that knew Robert, and understand how sad this loss is.

Robert, you may have left us, but the memory remains.
I wish you well my friend,
Tony Smith
